Garageband Ipad Touch Instruments Browser

GarageBand User Guide for iPad

You can choose the Touch Instrument for an empty row in the grid. Any cells you record use the Touch Instrument for that row. If you choose an Audio Recorder or Amp Touch Instrument, you can also add loops to empty cells in the grid.

Garageband

I don't know if this is even easily doable.
But if so could somebody describe in general terms what functionality is missing in the cut-down version of Garageband that runs on iPhone/iPad versus the full version that runs on a Mac ?
I just got some books on Garageband (I think they're geared to the Mac version) and wanted to see if it was worth learning it for mobile sketching purposes.
And I was wondering before wasting time with the books how much of the stuff covered in them would simply not be applicable to the limited version that works on the iPhone/iPad. It might be very frustrating if I read about some function in the book only to find its been cut out of the iPhone/iPad. (I do not own a Mac). Exactly how much difference is there and how crippled is the cut-down version ?
Thanks,
Bob

  1. Nov 01, 2017  Even if you’re not a big GarageBand user, it’s fun having instruments like this – and those based on Alchemy and other instruments in Logic – available when you tether your iPad to your desktop, too. So try the new audio driver available in iOS 11 to record, or try a tool like studiomux.
  2. Apple GarageBand 1.3 (for iPad) remains a stunner, with excellent sound quality, expressive string instruments, and just enough note editing to be truly useful for composing and recording music.
